Guam's Congresswoman: Taking NK Threats 'Very Seriously'
"I've been definitely concerned about this threat because we were threatened numerous times a few years ago," Rep. Madeleine Bordallo, 84, who has represented Guam since 2003, told Anderson Cooper on CNN.
Pyongyang said Wednesday it was "carefully examining" a plan to strike Guam hours after President Donald Trump warned North Korea any further threats to the United States would be met with "fire and fury."
Bordallo told Cooper she has regularly talked with Defense Secretary James Mattis and Navy Adm. Harry Harris of the Pacific Command about escalating tensions with North Korea.
"They always tell me: 'Madeleine, don't worry about it. We're going to keep Guam safe. We're going to take good care of Guam.
Guam has a THAAD missile defense system since the Obama administration, which is operated by the Army.
"I've been told over and over that they're looking at Guam, they've got us within their vision to take care of us," Bordallo said.
"This has been very assuring to me."
